Release 62
Read what smaller companies said in their earnings releases
You can now read what smaller companies said in their earnings releases, in plain words, minutes after they file.
What changed for people using Bellwether
- Markets › Filings. Every earnings release the desk's reader has read, newest first: what the company did with its own forecast, whether the result came from the business or from one-time items, how management describes demand, and how long after filing it was read. Find it from the Filings link on the Markets bar, or from search.
- Open a row for the read in full. The numbers it reported, each claim beside the exact line of the filing it came from and whether that line was found word for word, the new risks by name, and what the read does not mean. The one link out goes to the filing on the SEC's site.
- On a symbol's page, the Research tab shows the latest filing read when the reader has read that company, with one link to the full read. For a company it has not read, the tab says so in one line.
- Plain words. Earnings per share, GAAP, company guidance, one-offs, impairment and the reading itself each explain themselves when you rest on them.
What you may notice
- The page says it is research and that the desk never trades on it. Whether these reads predict returns is still being measured, and the page says where that test stands and when its verdict is due.
- On a wide screen the two panels that explain the page sit beside the list instead of under it.
- With only a few reads the filter row stays hidden; it appears once there is something to filter.
- Company names that arrive in capital letters are shown in ordinary case; the filing's exact name is kept in the read's details.
- A release that reports two periods at once shows its figures as the release printed them, with the period on the quoted line.
- Nothing in this release changes what the desk buys or sells.
Switched on
- Nothing is switched on or off by this release.
Known gaps and what’s next
- Filings is its own page reached from the Markets bar, not a tab that keeps the bar; it may move into the bar later.
- A help article on reading an earnings release with the reader is still to come.
