Overview, Desk and Markets rebuilt, and an out-of-service book says so

Overview, Desk, Markets, the Lab and Performance were rebuilt on one page layout, and a book that is out of service now says so wherever it is named.

What changed for people using Bellwether

  • Overview, rebuilt. The page opens on your equity with the day's figures beside the chart, then positions, what needs you, risk, alerts and the day in words. The line that compares the book with the S&P 500 now breaks between its parts, so its last words never sit alone on a line.
  • A book out of service says so. When Bellwether cannot reach a book's broker, or the book waits for its owner to check the connection, a band under the top bar says what is happening, since when and when it tries again. The book menu shows the same word beside the book's name.
  • Desk explains itself. The screen that was named "Agent" is now Desk, with tabs named Today, Agents and Learning. Today lists the day's sessions beside the one you have open, and each agent has a page with its sessions, its instructions in plain words and its settings.
  • Markets holds news and research. The Research screen moved into Markets as tabs named News, Research and Screens. The news list shows fifteen items a page, and old links land on the right tab.
  • Lab and Performance. Track record, Statement and Evidence are now tabs of Performance, and the comparison with the S&P 500 sits under the equity curve. The Lab keeps its four tabs on the same page layout.
  • Plainer sentences everywhere. Alerts, halt reasons and notices are written as short sentences with plain figures. An alert no longer shows a raw technical message or an order's internal number.

What you may notice

  • The list of screens on the left is one row shorter. Research left it because it lives in Markets.
  • On a phone the bottom bar reads Overview, Inbox, Portfolio, Desk and More.
  • While a book is out of service the top bar of a laptop or a larger screen shows one small label that says Reconnecting, Out of service or Checking, and it hides today's change. On a narrower window the band under the bar says it.
  • In the book menu a book that is out of service shows when its value was last read and no change for today.
  • A book that is paused or halted and also out of service gets one band that says both facts. The way to resume is still the button in the top bar.
  • The Advisor's link on Overview opens the Inbox with the latest advice already open.
  • On Desk, a past day's full run log sits under the open session and stays closed until you open it.
  • On a phone, a long book name and its out-of-service word take two lines, so neither is cut.
  • The Learning tab on Desk keeps the page released on September 29, which answers three questions in plain words.
  • On a book whose stops are checked at the closing price, a held name's page says so: the stop is checked at the close, a close at or under it sells at the next open, and the wider stop resting at the broker is named with its price.
  • On a Speculative book the Lab now says, as Risk and Overview already do, that the two loss stops do not protect the book.
  • Help pictures of the rebuilt screens were taken again.
  • Nothing in this release changes what the desk buys or sells.

Switched on

  • Nothing is switched on or off by this release.

Known gaps and what’s next

  • While a book is out of service, the large figures at the top of Overview still read as live although the band above them says otherwise. A fix comes next.
  • Overview is a little longer than two screens on a laptop because it keeps the Discovery panel whole. A later release folds it.
  • On a phone the word that says a book is out of service sits beside the book's name and scrolls away with it.
  • Search still offers a Research screen. Choosing it opens Markets on the News tab.
