A quiet lit room whose light follows the desk
The console's background is now a quiet lit room, and the light at its top tells you what the desk is doing.
What changed for people using Bellwether
- A still, lit room. Every signed-in screen sits in a dark room lit softly from the top, with a fine grain and cards lifted a little off it. The faint warm shapes that used to breathe and drift in wide margins are gone.
- The light follows the desk. The light at the top is a faint warm gray while the desk is idle, orange while it works and amber when it has stopped to wait for you. When trading is paused or halted the room turns a cool gray.
- A line that asks for you. The thin line under the top bar fades out at both ends while nothing waits on you, gray at rest and orange while the desk works. It runs from wall to wall while anything waits in the Inbox, and while trading is paused or halted.
- Nothing moves on its own. The only motion in the background is one slow fade, a little over a second long, when the state changes. With reduced motion switched on the change is instant.
- A halt shows everywhere at once. A halt the trading service sets itself now reaches the top bar, the banner and the light together within seconds, without a reload.
What you may notice
- If you had chosen Off for a flat black page, you now get the still room at its resting light. Nothing in it moves or changes with the desk.
- Settings, Display, Ambient effects now means how strongly the light follows the desk. Subtle dims the light and the line, and Off keeps the room and stops it following the desk. The old description that mentioned drifting dust is gone.
- While a session runs and items wait in the Inbox, the room is orange and the line is amber from wall to wall. The line answers whether anything waits on you, even while the desk is busy.
- A wall to wall line is amber for waiting items and for a pause a person set, and red when a risk rule or a broker problem stopped trading. The pill and the banner say which in words.
- Bars that stay pinned while you scroll, such as the day header on Activity and the tab rows on Risk and Portfolio, are now frosted like the top bar.
- On wide screens the small dot beside the desk's status no longer pulses while the desk works. It stays lit with a still ring.
- The light is never the only signal. The top bar, the count beside Inbox and the halt banner say the same thing in words.
Switched on
- The state light is on for every login at the On level. A choice of Subtle or Off you made earlier is kept.
Known gaps and what’s next
- On mid-sized laptop screens the top bar still shows the desk's state as an orb without words. The line, the Inbox count and the desk's card on the Overview carry it there.
